Energy UK comments on Eurelectric's letter to the Prime Minister and Michel Barnier
Commenting on Eurelectric’s letter to the Prime Minister and Michel Barnier today, Energy UK’s chief executive, Lawrence Slade said:
“We support the letter sent by Eurelectric today to Theresa May and Michel Barnier, particularly in highlighting the damaging consequences of a no-deal Brexit for UK and EU energy customers and the wider energy sector.
“As we have seen set out in the recent no deal technical papers, a cliff-edge Brexit would necessarily result in less efficient trading. This could lead to cost pressures that could impact upon customers’ bills. We hope that a deal with a transition period will be reached, allowing for further negotiations on the future energy relationship. We also hope that the UK Government will urgently clarify the arrangements for future carbon trading arrangements as we strongly believe that participation in, or close alignment to, the EU ETS, will deliver the best outcome for UK and EU energy customers.”
