Energy UK responds to Industrial Strategy
Responding to the Government's publication of its Industrial Strategy, Lawrence Slade, Energy UK's Chief Executive, said:
“Our sector invests almost £12bn a year in the UK and we welcome the government’s recognition that the move to cleaner energy represents a great economic opportunity which will play a critical role in our future growth.
“The energy industry has led the way in reducing carbon emissions and the strategy is right to identify both cleaner transport and improving energy efficiency in our homes and businesses as essential to maintaining future progress - as is introducing smart and more flexible systems that can accommodate different sources and new technologies. This will require new skills in areas such as software and programming and the government’s commitment to funding STEM, digital and technical education will be key to making this happen.
“Given the effect it could have both on reducing emissions and keeping bills down for customers, energy efficiency should become a fully funded national infrastructure priority and it’s also vital that we start exploring the long-term options for clean heating without any further delay.”
