Over 2.2m switch energy supplier so far in 2017
May switching up 19 percent on last year
New data released today reveals more than 430,000 customers switched supplier last month. This is an increase of 19 percent on last May and takes the total number of switches in 2017 to over 2.2 million. May also saw three in ten (128,180) customers switch from a large supplier to a small or mid-tier supplier.
Lawrence Slade, chief executive of Energy UK, said:
“More than 2.2 million customers have already switched this year, and we want to see this increasing engagement in the market continue. We’re looking forward to working with the Government to ensure competition continues to flourish and ensure consumers get a fair energy deal.”
